Your hair shouldn't be sopping wet when you first pick up a blow-dryer. Instead, squeeze out excess water with a T-shirt—the fabric will be gentler on your strands than a towel, and your hair will be stronger and shinier in the long run.
"Depending on how thick your hair is, you should divide it into two or three sections," says Chelsey Pickthorn, stylist and owner of Pickthorn Salon in Brooklyn. "Make sure your bangs and cowlicks are brushed into place so they dry the way you'd like them to." Use alligator jaw clips specially designed to hold hair so you can section it off with ease.
