Is This the Brush of the Future?

What Is It?

The Sonicblend is a rechargeable makeup brush that has a vibrating head to apply and blend makeup. The brush is made with antimicrobial technology that allows it to fend off bacteria (but it still needs to be washed now and then).

I have to admit, I don't wear foundation as much as I probably should. I typically just use tinted moisturizer because I can rub it in with my fingers, without the daunting task of blending. Sure, Beautyblenders are great because the shape and material make application super easy. But I love a good tool that takes matters into its own, well, motors.

How Do You Use It?

The brush is rechargeable, so you don't have to worry about it going dead mid-application.

On one of my rare foundation-wearing occasions I decide to give this techy brush a try. At first I'm confused about whether I should put the liquid on the brush first or on my face, but I figure that this is the brush of the future so surely it can handle a glob of foundation.

I dot the brush with product and make sure to keep the device off until the bristles touch my skin. Then I turn it on and watch the magic happen.

At first the bristles tickle my face, but as I keep going the sensation subsides. Of course I don't completely keep my hand still as I still need to apply product to my face, but all I have to do is guide the tool around.

I finish applying foundation and consider using the brush to pat on some blush, but I realize there's foundation all over the bristles that I don't have time to clean so my time with the Sonicblend has come to an end.

Is It Worth It?

You can take the head off for a safe, gentle cleaning.

I love that with the Sonicblend I can easily put foundation on without much effort. But I do wish I had different ones for blush and eye shadow: I would rather not have to clean it off every single time, and also, the perfect-circle shape of the brush isn't conducive to applying product to small areas.

I do think I'll be wearing more foundation from now on, thanks to the ease and efficiency of the mechanical brush. Who knows? Maybe it will even become a part of my regular morning routine!

You can find the Sonicblend for $99 on michaeltoddbeauty.com.
