For some, fashion week is about the clothes, but for others, it's about gleaning inspiration from some of the best manicures you're likely to see all year. "Nails are the best accessory: they really finish an outfit and they express who you are as a person," says Miss Pop, the lively New York City-based manicurist who has done nail looks for Jeremy Scott, Marissa Webb, Rachel Antonoff, and more.

"I show up at a particular show's beauty test—the time when hair, makeup, and nail looks are decided—and I'll get to see the clothes in person and see which prints and colors are defining the collection," she says. Miss Pop then works on design concepts and talks with the designer to pick the final manicure looks for the runway.

Backstage, says Miss Pop, nail artists have about 10 to 15 minutes per model, which means they need to work efficiently to produce the final design. "Runway looks are often the ones that are the most D.I.Y.-able because of the time constraints," she says.

Here are some of Miss Pop's tricks for giving yourself a rad-looking manicure that's NYFW fast.

Tip No. 1: Clean Up With a Brush

The curved negative space takes this manicure from boring to interesting at the Alice + Olivia fall 2016 show.

"When I get nail polish on my skin, I like to clean up with a thin brush dipped in nail polish remover or acetone," says Miss Pop. "Acetone-based nail polish remover or pure acetone are ideal." The stronger the remover, the faster it takes away unwanted color and mistakes.

Tip No. 2: Cheat (in a Good Way)

Miss Pop gave models some lip at Rachel Antonoff's fall 2016 show.

"I love using stickers, sticker tape, and stencils. Use tape that's specially made for nails, like vinyl painter's tape, but you can also utilize any tape on hand. These help get looks done really fast backstage," she says.

Tip No. 3: Get a Dotter

"There are so many tools that help, but dotters are great because they create perfect circles on the nail," Miss Pop says.

"The most important item to have is quick dry," Miss Pop says. Pick from a range of drops and sprays that will set nail polish faster.
