Glossy-Lidded Surprise

Music Video: "We Found Love" featuring Calvin Harris (2011)

The Look: With glossy lids and neutral lipstick, this romantic look paired well with the dreamy color palette of the video for Rihanna's heartbreaking electronic ballad.

The Technique: Apply an eyelid primer and then add a layer of eye gloss on top, working the product up to your brow bone. Skip mascara (unless it's a clear formula) and lightly groom your eyebrows. Glide on a nude, moisturizing lipstick. Then, pin a section of your hair up towards the crown and let the other side unfurl around your face.

The Monochromatic Dream

Most Popular

Music Video: "Work" featuring Drake (2016)

The Look: Weirdly, the second video from "Work" is highly underrated—maybe it's the lack of a good Rihanna twerk. But this one has an aesthetic that screams '90s, and we're here for the matchy-matchy lip and eye colors.

The Technique: This one's pretty easy, folks. Apply a lightly pigmented cream shadow up into the crease of your lids. Make sure to blend out the color so it doesn't look too caked on. This will also create a haze effect around the eye. Apply a lip color that's similar in shade to your eye shadow and blot.

The Cool-Girl Smoky Eye

Music Video: "Umbrella" featuring Jay Z (2007)

The Look: Rihanna's smokey eye in the "Umbrella" is sexy, but not overly intense. We can easily see this makeup translate well for day and night.

The Technique: Apply a black shadow right up against your upper lash line and blend out the color to the outer corner of your eye with the brush. Line the top lash line with a black eyeliner. Then add two coats of mascara on the top and bottom lashes. On your cheeks, apply a golden-rose blush or bronzer. Finish up the look with a nude lip gloss.

The Raunchy Movie Star

Music Video: "Pour It Up" (2012)

The Look: Rihanna's not afraid to take on a bold hair color, even if just for a video. The blonde wig and red lip combination in "Pour It Up" channels Old Hollywood, but of course Riri updates it with her insurmountable swagger.

The Technique: Find a short blonde wig, put on said wig, then put on your favorite red lipstick. Then you're done!

The Rookie

Music Video: "If It's Lovin' That You Want" (2005)

The Look: Rihanna was a new kid on the block when this single came out (right off of the heels of "Pon de Replay") and her turquoise eyeliner and candy-hued lip color are the makeup prequels to her "good girl gone bad...and then all the way bad" aesthetic.

The Technique: Fill in your top lid with a gold eye shadow. Then draw a thin black line on both the top and bottom lash lines. Grab a glittery turquoise liner and draw a thick line on the bottom lid that extends past the outer and inner corners of your eye. Finish off with two coats of mascara and a swipe of pink lip gloss.
