Spanish artist Sandra Suárez has arguably the most cheerful Instagram of anyone I follow. Each post pulsates with color: she renders animals in stripes and dots of pinks, blues, and yellow; paints fruit and vegetables equally vibrant hues (and gives them expressive faces); and photographs the occasional pastel succulent in an ice cream cone. Her project 365 Masks, during which she created a new mask referencing a pop culture figure on a daily basis, caught Instagram's attention, and she partnered with the app to design masks for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Now Suárez has begun illustrating and animating scenes from some of her favorite TV shows and films (Stranger Things, Amélie, How I Met Your Mother, Forrest Gump), using her trademark shocks of color in geometric patterns. "Normally, I use the paintbrush more than the computer," the Barcelona-based artist says. "I usually work with acrylic paint, gouache, watercolor. This is the first time I'm doing something only digitally. It's an experiment."

Barb, "Stranger Things"
"She just has a small role in the series, but she is cool and her style is the best! These are some of her best phrases."
Edward, "Edward Scissorhands"
"One of Tim Burton's best works. This is when Edward tries to adapt to a 'normal' life."
"I chose this film because it's pure magic. It's just such a pretty love story, with wonderful, surreal touches."
Forrest, "Forrest Gump"
"Forrest Gump is, of course, a classic—the storytelling is masterful! We all remember Forrest's exploits and can quote his most famous phrases. I relate all of those with this image of Forrest sitting on a bench with a box of chocolates."
Sheldon Cooper, "The Big Bang Theory"
"Sheldon is very strange and, in his own way, very charismatic. I wanted to show some of the shirts that he typically wears, which have become almost iconic."
Edward and Sandra, "Big Fish"
"Obviously, I love the worlds created by Tim Burton, but especially that of Edward Bloom and Sandra Templeton in Big Fish. The film's photography is incredibly beautiful. This moment they share in the field of flowers is perfect."
Pi Patel and Richard Parker, "Life of Pi"
"The film's visual effects make the story magical. I had to pick the image of the tiger and the boy alone in the boat in the sea because it's just so intense."
Ted Mosby, "How I Met Your Mother"
"Ted Mosby is adorable, one of the fictional characters that I like the most. This GIF references some of the stories that Ted tells his children throughout the series."
Walter Mitty, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty"
"I love the surreal touches of this movie, those amazing landscapes, like here, when Walter skates in Iceland between mountains while fleeing from a volcano."
Elliot and E.T., "E.T."
"The most recognizable image from a classic movie: when E.T. levitates the boys' bikes."
