Jill Platner's beloved New York jewelry boutique has been around since 1998, but what many people don't realize is that she's also a talented sculptor. Platner approaches her metalworking on both a small and large scale by paying close attention to the natural movement of each piece. That principle comes through elegantly in both her accessories and in her hanging works, such as Falcons Fledgling Five, where joints allow the sculpture to sway in the same way that an earring might. There is such a strong likeness between the jewelry and sculptures, in fact, that when there's no reference for scale, it's hard to tell the difference.
