The Book of Secrets

Introducing Bookniture, the product that's taking compact furniture to a new level. Faced with serious space constraints in his hometown of Hong Kong, designer Mike Mak created this tome-shaped object that can be stored on a shelf, but fans out into a seat. Supported by an origami structure, it can withstand serious weight—200 lbs at least (trust us, we tested it)—and has many uses: a standing desk platform, a footstool, an extra seat. It's the kind of design object so delightful that it's worth having a party just to give you an excuse to use it. "Oh wait, there's no place for you to sit, Mark? No worries!"
