There aren't many artists out there whose work you could describe as "kawaii as hell" and "beloved by the art world Establishment" in the same breath. But FriendsWithYou is no ordinary art collective. Founded more than 10 years ago by Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III, the duo have made spreading a message of "magic, luck, and friendship" their artistic mission. This has manifested in a variety of delightful ways, from gigantic inflatable public art to "psychic stones" to virtual reality experiences. This monograph, which features a conversation between the artists and Pharrell, is a survey of the massive range of their creative output, much of which features depictions of simple, happy faces—much like the one on its iridescent cover.
