It's Time to Step Up Your Hot Beverage Game

Bring on the warm fuzzies.

You've probably already decked out your place with shag throws and fragrant candles in the name of hygge, but have you cozied up your drinks yet? Boozy hot chocolate and a soothing hot toddy are our new favorite means of literally internalizing hygge, and warming ourselves from the inside out.

We caught up with Daniel "Gravy" Thomas, Sailor Jerry ambassador, at Brooklyn's Old Stanley Bar to get his updated takes on the two classic beverages—that is, smooth, sweet finishes with the right amount of kick.

Sailor Jerry Hot Chocolate


1½ ounces Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum

1½ ounces butterscotch schnapps

3 ounces hot chocolate

Dash of orange bitters

Whipped cream

Shaved chocolate

How to Make It

Pour Sailor Jerry and schnapps, then add hot chocolate. Top with whipped cream and shaved chocolate. Add a dash of orange bitters.

Hot Toddy


1½ ounces Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum

2 ounces boiling water

1 teaspoon honey

1 slice lemon

3–5 cloves

1 cinnamon stick

How to Make It

Add honey and cloves, to taste, to your glass of Sailor Jerry. Pour in boiling water, squeeze a lemon, and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
