Marshall the Turkey Adoption, $30, farmsanctuary.org/giving/adopt-a-turkey.
You don't have to be vegan to want to help farm animals who have been mistreated. Farm Sanctuary rescues animals—from baby chicks to elderly sheep—and either rehomes them or takes them into one of its three sanctuaries in New York and California. With a monthly donation, you can sponsor a farm animal, which comes with updates and visitation privileges, or you can gift a one-time donation to sponsor a turkey like Marshall who "fell off" (escaped from?) a truck on the way to the turkey market. Your friends and family want to help support brave and free-spirited turkeys, right? Right. Merry Christmas, Marshall. We're glad you're with us.
Lynx Adoption, from $39, store.sierraclub.org.
Just because an animal's in trouble doesn't mean it's sweet. The Sierra Club's Adopt a Wild Animal program allows you to support the organization in its work protecting gray wolves and lynxes in Glacier National Park, mountain lions in Yosemite, snowy owls in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, tarantulas in the Grand Canyon, and more. (OK, there are some cute wild animals involved, too—yes, baby harbor seal, we're looking at you). Your giftee will get a cuddly stuffed-animal version of your adopted wild beast, along with a booklet about them and an adoption certificate. Visitations not recommended on this one.
