Netflix would rather you sleep when you're dead. According to the CEO of Netflix, Reed Hastings, the streaming platform's biggest competitor isn't HBO or Amazon or YouTube (though Hastings has admitted he has "YouTube envy")—it's sleeping. During Netflix's Q1 earnings call this week (we hope you're not snoring already), Hastings remarked, "Think about it, when you watch a show from Netflix and you get addicted to it, you stay up late at night. We're competing with sleep, on the margin." That same day, the official Netflix Twitter account tweeted:
Personally, I'd love to see Netflix team up with Big Pharma to produce a controversial sleep suppressant. I'd take that pill daily if it meant I could watch every season of The Office for literally the thirteenth time.
