"When the Night Falls" by Boytoy
Anyone who's missed an ex during the wee hours of the night will empathize with lead singer Glenn Van Dyke's feels: "People thought that I was foolin' 'round / I don't regret the things I've done / Although I miss your lovin' / When the night falls." Riddled with surf-rock guitars, harmonica, and a clamor of drums and tambourines, this dose of psychedelic garage rock from the Brooklyn band proves they know how to wallow in style.
"Sunburn" by Tinashe
"Sunburn" showcases a gentler side of the normally party-ready Tinashe. Sensual and ethereal, she sounds smoother than we've ever heard. "I'm seeing pink 'cause I've been looking at the bright side," she croons. "I ain't letting nobody cloud up all my blue sky." Sounds like a good tactic to us.
"Me and Your Mama" by Childish Gambino
It's been three years since we heard anything from Childish Gambino, but that's because Donald Glover's been just a tad bit busy, with both his FX show Atlanta and his newly released album Redbone. Opening up with some gently tinkling chimes and an angelic choir, "Me and Your Mama" pleasantly surprises two minutes in with electric guitar and a soulful—maybe even hysterical—Donald, bellowing about "the end of us."
"Maniac" by Jhene Aiko
Jhene Aiko partners with Big Sean to not-so-humblebrag by sing-rapping about her skills in the bedroom. Backed by a trap-infused beat, this one works just as well on the dance floor as it does for a crazy night in.
"Kick Jump Twist" by Sylvan Esso
Sylvan Esso's new song doesn't start out sounding like something that would make you want to dance, but give it some time. As soon as the intricate synths and dubstep-like beat come in, your mind is prone to change.
"favorite." by Denitia and Sene
The title of R&B duo Denitia and Sene's new song is an apt one, seeing as it happens to be our new favorite. Smooth as can be, and with lyrics that should be listed under the definition of "relationship goals," we only wish someone would write something like this about us: "Something 'bout you gives me butterflies inside / I'll wait to feel you fly / Come and talk to me / Honestly, you're an anomaly / there ain't no crushin' in my mind / I'll give you all my time / I don't worry / Because my favorite part of the day / Is when I see your face."
"I Feel It Coming" by The Weeknd ft. Daft Punk
After hearing "Starboy," we knew that The Weeknd and Daft Punk made a great team, so we're stoked to hear another tune they partnered up for on The Weeknd's new LP. Though it's got a more old-fashioned pop feel than Abél's usual fare, it still has a rich mid-tempo funk to it, and we hope it's just the beginning of a long and beautiful friendship.
