Casual California style is the calling card of Jeff Abrams and his fashion label Rails, which began life in 2008, born from a desire to fuse the cool outfits Abrams saw on his European travels with what he already knew from his own style habitat: Los Angeles. "When I first began, I really had no idea how to actually produce a full collection. It was a journey of trial and error," confesses Abrams, whose first design effort consisted of sewing the word "Rails" onto a hat and a hoodie and subsequently trekking around the stores of L.A. to see if he could sell them.
Lucky for him, and us, he did—and 50 countries and more than 1,000 retail stockists later, he has amassed a fashion following that extends to the likes of Kate Moss, Gisele Bundchen, Caroline de Maigret, and January Jones. His is now a fully fledged brand synonymous with great denim and relaxed shirting. So, we thought, who better to ask than Abrams for a few springtime denim insights? Here are his five seasonal style suggestions:
Return to Classics
"We're seeing a movement away from skinnies and into a more classic, vintage aesthetic. Think slim boyfriends and vintage Levi's washes. For our denim capsule collection, the key is comfort with authentic denim, washed down to create slouchy, lived-in silhouettes: we recommend the Beckett slim boyfriend jean, the Knox jacket, the Logan short and Elsa vest."
Try All White Everything
"White denim should be a staple of every spring wardrobe—it brings a fresh feel to any look. We're especially feeling a white-on-white look. The Logan short and Willow raglan will look clean and concise worn together."
"You should never shy away from denim-on-denim. Find creative ways to utilize all your denim pieces by mixing prints and washes. Pair our light vintage Marlow shirt with the Logan medium wash shorts for a new take on it."
The New Two-Piece
"If you're looking to make a statement, matching sets are a directional way to wear denim. Don't be afraid to wear bold prints and stripes for an elevated but easy and effortless look."
The Combination: Relaxed and Refined
"Incorporating luxe, slouchy tencel denim to your wardrobe in shapes like our Nadia jacket and Anya dress bring a more feminine take on traditional denim styles."
