Mansur Gavriel, the New York-based maker of everyone's favorite bucket bags and slides, announced today that it will debut its first-ever ready-to-wear collection for Fall/Winter 2017. In addition, it will shift to the "see now, buy now" model and wait until September to debut in-season clothing immediately for purchase, as opposed to doing a traditional presentation in February amidst New York Fashion Week.
Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel, who first launched first with just handbags in 2012 then shoes in 2015, said in a shared statement, "We want to create a full world for our consumers and are thrilled to grow our product offering to include ready-to-wear. Our decision to simultaneously switch to a consumer-focused calendar is also exciting. We're looking forward to offering our customers such immediacy."
The design duo previously hinted at making clothing back in June 2015, when they wore their first designs on the CFDA Fashion Awards red carpet.
While there will be no new collection showing during New York Fashion Week, Mansur Gavriel will open a "fully immersive Candy shop environment" at its pop-up on 134 Wooster Street for four weeks starting on February 15. Customers will be able to shop the Spring/Summer 2017 collection while enjoying Italian candies."We create immersive Mansur Gavriel environments every season and so wanted to continue that. We love the idea of creating a new world for guests to escape to," Mansur said.
