Carry On

Truss's tote bags have more in common with high-end purses than canvas carryalls (and we're definitely OK with that).

Much like the old T-shirts collecting dust in the back of our closets, tote bags are one of those items we unconsciously accumulate over the years. But keepsake carryalls from your favorite store are one thing; Truss's totes are entirely another.

Elise Durbecq and Gillian Tozer founded the New York-based accessories line in 2013 after they returned from a trip to Mexico. The friends were inspired by the structured bags locals carried to the market, and since then, the brand has stayed true to its Mexican roots. From vibrant colors to traditional weaving—Truss employs weavers in Oaxaca to produce their bags—nearly every aspect of the durable, roomy totes link back to the duo's original inspiration.

Taking cues from Oaxacan architecture and the region's mountainous skyline at sunset—bathed in purples, greens, and pinks, sigh—the brand's current offerings are versatile enough to carry to the office, gym, or the Saturday farmer's market. These are carryalls (or should we say carryallways?) that live up to their purpose—which is more than enough to convince us to replace our cache of totes with this one.

Small Triptych Crossbody Tote, $160; Medium Triptych Tote, $180; Large Sunset Tote, $195; all, fwrd.com. See trussnyc.com for more information.
